      Chiquinha Gonzaga (1847-1935) was a musician and composer who provoked social reform and progress in Brazil.  Gonzaga was the first professional pianist of the choro genre (one of the first Brazilian popular music genres), the first person commissioned to write music for the Carnaval celebration, and the first female conductor in Brazil. Matthew Tatz is a graduate tuba performance major at Washington State University. He received his Bachelors in Music Education from Georgia Southern University. He finished as a national finalist at the Music Teacher’s National Association’s Young Artists Brass competition in 2017.

The WSU Symphonic Band will present their first concert of the spring semester on February 14th at 8pm inside beautiful Bryan Hall Theatre. The first half of the concert will feature the WSU Chamber Winds, conducted by Dr. Troy Bennefield.
