The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites you to a colloquium featuring Benjamin Cromey, Sr. Optical Engineer at Ball Aerospace. Dr. Cromey’s talk, “Academic to Engineer: skills to work on now for a future in industry” will be held Thursday, February 22, at 12:10 pm inWebster 11.

Many PhD students don’t consider their exit plan when they enter graduate school. Often by

the time they realize they’re interested in a career in industry, they may be about to

graduate and feel unprepared for an environment other than academia. Dr. Benjamin

Cromey will discuss how he planned for his career in industry throughout his PhD, and

discuss practical advice on how any PhD student can do the same. He will do a broad

overview of the skills he uses regularly, including some he wished he had worked on when

he was still a student himself! Come· prepared with questions about careers in industry and

a good discussion on how to prepare for it now.
