Sustainable Ag Poster Session and Keynote

About the event

The 2017 BIOAg Symposium brings together sustainable agriculture research scientists, students, and interested individuals from all disciplines to learn about recent research results, find common themes, and facilitate partnerships.  This year, in addition to the poster session, the event will feature a keynote presentation by Dr. David Montgomery, MacArthur Fellow and professor of geomorphology at the University of Washington.

2:00 pm – BIOAg Poster Session (abstracts now accepted until Feb. 13th)

3:00 pm – David Montgomery presents The Hidden Half of Nature: The Microbial Roots of Life and Health

4:00 pm – Poster awards announced; BIOAg Poster Session continued

5:00 pm – Closing comments

David R. Montgomery is a MacArthur Fellow and professor of geomorphology at the University of Washington. He is an internationally recognized geologist who studies landscape evolution and the effects of geological processes on ecological systems and human societies. Author of three award-winning popular-science books, he has been featured in documentary films, network and cable news, and on a wide variety of TV and radio programs, including NOVA, PBS NewsHour, Fox and Friends, and All Things Considered. When not writing or doing geology, he plays guitar in the band Big Dirt.

 

The 2017 BIOAg Symposium poster session is scheduled is scheduled to bookend Dr. Montgomery’s presentation.  Posters on relevant topics are welcome from students, faculty, and others.  The poster content should relate to the idea of biologically intensive agriculture (farming practices and systems that rely on biological processes which are renewable, non-polluting, and mutually beneficial to both farmers and society) or to organic farming.  The BIOAg Poster Session is meant to share information, build teamwork, and to help the BIOAg program refine future priorities.
