Science of Learning Symposium: The Integration of Basic and Clinical Science.

About the event

Drs. Nicole Wood and Maria Myolopoulos, educational leaders and medical education scholars at the University of Toronto’s Wilson Centre and Faculty of Medicine will present a series of seminars and interactive workshops on Wednesday, March 21, and Thursday, March 22.

Drs. Wood and Myolopoulos are renowned speakers and workshop leaders.  Dr. Wood’s work examines the role of biomedical knowledge in clinical reasoning and the value of basic science training in the development of medical expertise.  Dr. Myolopoulos research program explores the development and maintenance of expertise, with a particular focus on how health professionals deal with uncertainty, novelty and complexity in their daily clinical problem solving.

The symposium is sponsored by the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Academy, in collaboration with WSU AOI and the ESF College of Medicine.

Space permitting, the Science of Learning Symposium is open to the public. Biomedical educators planning to attend the workshops are asked to click on the following site link to register for each session.

  • 3:00 – 5:00 pm – Workshop: Preparing learners to be the experts we need

Thursday, March 22  – Location: ADBF 1002

  • 9:00 – 11:00 am – Workshop: Teaching strategies for cognitive integration
  • 12:10 pm – Mini-workshop: Assessment matters: Aligning assessment with curricular goals
