Physics and Astronomy Colloquium – Dr. Elizabeth Donley

About the event

The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites you to a colloquium featuring Dr. Elizabeth Donley, National Institute of Standards and Technology. Dr. Donley will present her talk, “Cold-Atoms: A Clean Platform for Compact Atomic Clocks and Sensors.”

Meet for refreshments before the lecture at 3:45 – 4:10pm in the foyer on floor G above the lecture hall.

Abstract: Recent work at NIST to develop atomic clocks and sensors based on laser cooling, atomic spectroscopy, and micro‐electro‐mechanical systems (MEMS) will be presented. The design, fabrication and performance of these instruments will be described, with an emphasis on our work to develop a laser‐cooled atominterferometer gyroscope and an atomic clock based on dark resonances. Finally, we speculate on possible future
