Opera Workshop presents The Merry Widow

Do you hear a waltz?  It is the WSU School of Music’s production of Franz Lehar’s comic operetta, The Merry Widow!  Filled with beautiful music and romance, the opera opens with a ball at the Parisian embassy of Petrovenia, a fictional Eastern European country, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Its richest citizen, a young widow by the name of Hanna Glawari, arrives and is immediately pursued by the men in attendance. The Petrovenians must try to keep her money in the country and block any attempts to marry her by foreigners. Count Danilo has been assigned the task. The trouble is that he and Madame Glawari were once in love and now her money and his pride stand in the way.  The performances will take place in Bryan Hall Theatre on Friday, April 8 at 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m.  The WSU Opera Program is directed by Dr. Julie Anne Wieck and accompanied by the WSU Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Danh Pham.

Tickets will be available in the lobby of Kimbrough Music Building on April 6 – 8 from 10:00 – 2:00 p.m. or at the door in Bryan Hall 1 ½ hours before each performance.  The cost is $10 for students and senior citizens and $15 for general admission.  Plan to attend this wonderful production and you will leave, dancing and humming the famous Merry Widow Waltz!
