Eric McElroy, WSU Piano Alumnus Solo Recital

 

WSU School of Music alumnus Eric McElroy presents a free solo piano recital on August 31 at 8:00 pm in Bryan Hall Theatre. Currently a candidate for Birmingham Conservatoire’s Advanced Postgraduate Diploma, McElroy earned his Master’s degree at Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien with full honors. Eric earned his Bachelor’s degree (Honors) at Washington State University, studying with Gerald Berthiaume. McElroy will perform works by contemporary composers including his own composition The Perilous Realm, for which he won the prestigious MTNA National Young Artist Composition Competition. He was the winner of the Peter Donohoe Prize, John Ireland Prize, and the only winner of the Washington State Music Teachers Association Competitions in both piano and composition. The program includes Frederic Rzewski’s De Profundis, Jacob TV’s The Body of Your Dreams, and the American premiere of John Joubert’s Sonata no. 2.
