About the event

Dr. Lark Powers will present a recital titled “Exultation: Works for One and Two Pianos” on Feb. 23, 2017, at 8pm in Kimbrough Concert Hall, and will be joined by her piano-duo partner, Dr. Ricardo de la Torre.  The program will feature works that explore joy and exultation in music. The varied repertoire will take the listener from the refined humor of Mozart’s variations on a theme from one of Gluck’s opera comiques, to Mozart’s magnificent fugue in C minor for two pianos, to Franck’s best-known piano work, the profound Prelude, Choral and Fugue, to the ground-breaking extended techniques of the American composer Henry Cowell (1867-1965), and finally to the evocative and sultry atmosphere of Ravel’s Rhapsodie Espagnole for two pianos with its boisterous finale. Both residents of Pullman and active in the teaching profession, the Powers-de la Torre duo has performed to great acclaim in the U.S., Mexico and Europe.
