Pulitzer-Prize Winning Author Edward Humes Delivers WSU Common Reading Invited Lecture Oct. 7

About the event

Average Americans will generate 102 tons of trash in their lifetimes. Between 1980 and 2000 our daily trash load per person increased by one third. Where does our trash go? Howeffective is it, really, to re-use, recycle, re-purpose? One out of every six big trucks on the highway is carrying some form of trash.

Edward Humes, Pulitzer-Prize winning author of Garbology: Our Dirty Love Affair with Trash, will deliver the annual WSU Common Reading Invited Lecture Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at 7 p.m. in the M.G. Carey Senior Ballroom in the Compton Union Building (CUB). A book signing will follow.

Garbology is this year’s Common Reading book, being used by more than 4,000 first-year and other students at the university. Topics from the book are being featured in dozens of classes as well as at events and programs outside the classroom.

This is the eighth year the Common Reading Program has been in operation at WSU.
